What the Critics Say
The focus is on pianist Terry Waldo throughout this trio set with banjoist Eddy Davis and tuba player Vince Giordano. Waldo takes four of the dozen numbers as unaccompanied solos, he sings four tunes (including "Don't Give Me No Goose for Christmas") and performs a set ranging from rags (including "Mississippi Rag" which was the first rag ever composed), his own "Proctology," "Charleston" and "Sailin' Down the Chesapeake Bay" to an obscurity by Jelly Roll Morton ("Exit Gloom") that might have been receiving its recording debut. Ragtime and preswing piano collectors will particularly enjoy this LP, the second one ever released by Stomp Off. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
