What the Critics Say

What an Experiment His Head Was follows the natural progression of Uncle Green as musicians and songwriters. The band's second album with producer Brendan O'Brien at the control panel, Experiment is chock full of cathartic Southern rock in the vein of R.E.M. and the Black Crowes. The record captures well the energetic sound of Uncle Green's live performances, highlighting the tight interplay between the bass, drums and guitars. The band also shows off its growing expertise at song construction: instead of just relying on the great pop hooks of songs like "Guilty Party" and "Like Today," they spice up the tunes with proper intros, well-placed bridge sections and climactic solos. While not quite the band's best album, Experiment is a must for any Uncle Green fan. ~ Troy Carpenter, All Music Guide
