What the Critics Say
Conceptually inspired by the pissing contests of Jamaican DJ sound clashes, Techno Animal Versus Reality pits Kevin Martin against Justin Broadrick; however, instead of spinning vinyl, they face off using hard discs consisting of original sounds contributed by the likes of Tortoise, Ui, Porter Ricks, Alec Empire and Spectre. After getting the Techno Animal treatment, the tracks were then sent back to their respective creators for further reworking; the end result is five pairs of cuts, each thematically similar yet worlds removed in style and sensibility. Despite the quality of the guest producers, Techno Animal contributions like "Deceleration" and "Atomic Buddha" prove the best on the album. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
