What the Critics Say

Released by the British division of Hi, The Supreme Al Green: The Greatest Hits is a terrific 18-track collection that contains almost all of Green's hits, including "Tired of Being Alone," "Call Me," "I'm Still in Love With You," "Let's Stay Together," "I Can't Get Next to You," "Love and Happiness," "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy)," "Take Me to the River," and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." Although it inexplicably overlooks "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)" and contains a bit too much latter-day material for some tastes, it's still one of the best single-disc collections yet assembled on Green, rivaling the revamped Greatest Hits the Right Stuff released in the mid-'90s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
