What the Critics Say
The material on The Kershaw Sessions: Live at the BBC was recorded for disc jockey Andy Kershaw's BBC radio show between 1986 and 1989. It captures Ted Hawkins in an intimate, unvarnished setting that strips his music down to its purest essentials, making it an intriguing listen for fans who want more of Hawkins' bare-bones street-troubadour sound. Only a little over half the songs are Hawkins compositions; the high percentage of covers and the minimalist production give The Kershaw Sessions a vibe similar to Songs From Venice Beach. This is the way many British listeners were introduced to Hawkins' music, and it makes an excellent listen for American devotees as well. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
