What the Critics Say

Scads of Sister Sledge compilations have been skimpy and/or filled with re-recordings and substandard live material, so it's a pleasant surprise to see a package surface that is both extensive and straightforward. Released by Rhino in 2006, The Definitive Groove Collection is a two-disc set that offers too much for the casual fan -- if you fall into that category, either The Best of Sister Sledge (1973-1985) or 2002's Essentials will do. Beyond all the group's charting singles (including "We Are Family," "He's the Greatest Dancer," "Lost in Music," "Love Don't You Go Through No Changes on Me," and "My Guy"), the set contains a lot of deeper cuts that devout followers of the years covered here should appreciate. As with all the other titles in Rhino's The Definitive Groove Collection series, there are extensive liner notes and thorough release information. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
