What the Critics Say
Bill Conti's score for the obscure 1984 Australian film The Coolangatta Gold boasts the larger-than-life heroism and splendor that characterizes virtually all of the composer's best work -- listeners smitten with his adrenaline-pumping music for better-known pictures like Rocky and The Right Stuff will find much to savor here. A fanfare for the uncommon man, The Coolangatta Gold employs the rousing symphonics and brass flourishes one expects from Conti, but the strength of his melodies and the flawless pacing of his themes invigorate even the most familiar ideas. One M One's 2002 reissue contains 11 bonus tracks and crisp, dynamic sound, giving this underrated and under-recognized score the lavish treatment it deserves. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
