What the Critics Say
This Best of Ian Hunter set from Collectables may be a bit misrepresentative, but it's still a great buy for the cash. Many of the Mott tracks are actually taken from Hunter's live album with Mick Ronson in the 1980s -- and a surefire hint should be in the inclusion of "Slaughter on 10th Avenue," a standard that was the title cut from Ronson's first solo album. That said, these performances are great and full of piss and vinegar. Hunter is a consummate live performer who would never be outdone by his records. Therefore, from the studio outing of "Cleveland Rocks" to the live versions of "Once Bitten, Twice Shy," "All the Young Dudes," and even "I Wish I Was Your Mother," Hunter and Ronson were a nearly unbeatable team, and here's the evidence. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
