Taking Changesbowie one step (and one CD) further, The Singles: 1969-1993 embraces many of David Bowie's quirkier sides in the course of collecting all of his biggest hits, whilst picking up such overlooked gems as "Drive-In Saturday" and "Loving the Alien." The comprehensiveness -- even to the inclusion of the David Bowie/Bing Crosby holiday single "Peace on Earth"/"Little Drummer Boy" as a limited-edition bonus CD in the original release -- and the quality of the songs make this the best Bowie compilation available; fans will be pleased with the inclusion of the complete lyrics to all of the songs on this set, though instrument credits and recording dates would have been nice, too. In any case, it constitutes a full evening's listening and then some, across myriad styles representing Bowie's sound across 24 years. Note: the British version of this compilation, released the same year, was called The Singles Collection and featured a somewhat shorter and different song lineup, with "Rock 'N Roll Suicide," "Knock on Wood," "Alabama Song" and "Wild Is the Wind" included, but "Oh, You Pretty Things," "Be My Wife," "Look Back in Anger," "Cat People," "Loving the Alien," "Never Let Me Down," and "Jump They Say" absent.
