What the Critics Say
In the early '60s, Columbia and Capitol were issuing collections of Frank Sinatra's biggest hits, which tended to sell quite well. Sinatra's Sinatra was the singer's attempt to get a piece of that action for his new record label, Reprise. Arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle, the album is a collection of re-recorded versions of 12 of his favorite songs, including two new charts ("Nancy [With the Laughing Face]" and "Oh! What It Seemed to Be"). Some of his biggest hits and most famous songs are included in his picks, including "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Young at Heart," and while many of the performances are quite enjoyable, they tend to pale in direct comparison to the originals. Nevertheless, Sinatra's Sinatra is successful on its own terms, It's entertaining, if inconsequential. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
