What the Critics Say

No overdubs exist on this album, and the band is proud to state that fact on the back cover of the recording. It's completely live with no enhancements, which gives it the atmosphere of an Irish pub. Those who sit down with this record should make sure they're doing so enjoying a pint of Guinness and a plate of corned beef and cabbage. The musicianship is incredible, as violinists Tahmineh Gueramy and John Sands (aka Dishrag) play unison melodies. Gueramy attempts some vocal tracks, but her nasally voice results in some off-putting songs. She sounds like she has a head cold and should be resting in bed. Beauty shines through on tracks like the a capella "Somber," with Kitty Donohoe adding a serene Marie Black-quality to the music. Most of the songs are traditional, but they have been rearranged in Pub Domain's own style. The band breathes life into the old standards with melodies that flow like a turbulent river. The most notable tracks are the ones where the Heinzman School of Irish Dancers perform along with Pub Domain. One can really hear the crowd clapping their hearts out and being worked into a frenzy. This is a fun album full of good spirits. ~ Stephen Howell, All Music Guide
