What the Critics Say
If you're not familiar with Leroy Burgess' final Black Ivory albums where the New York trio ventured from the love ballads that made them a cult item, you won't recognize him with the Aleem Brothers on this or their first Atlantic LP. If you're looking for the searing falsetto-singing Burgess, look elsewhere. With Tunde-Ra and Taharqa Aleem, Burgess serves up another platter of electric soul that's far less compelling than their Atlantic debut. "Love Shock" is true Aleem and "Searchin'" is interesting, but the rest merely redo, to a lesser degree, what made them an underground interest. This was the Aleems final album as artists, though they still run a recording company in the Big Apple and produce others. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
