What the Critics Say
The final solo album in a concentrated period keeps to trumpeter Willie Mitchell's standard formula. His previous release, On Top, found Mitchell opening up to the massive talents of his bandmembers -- most of whom would back up Al Green during his groundbreaking run of the early '70s. The band's skill is evident here, with organist Charles Hodges again sounding good, but subpar material, a trademark of Mitchell's releases, stunts any chance for growth.
