What the Critics Say
Larry Gatlin has an almost flawless voice that is one of the most soulful in country music. He also is a great songwriter, and he penned all the tunes on Pure 'n Simple. The songs are almost instantly accessible. As the album's title suggests, the tracks are simple with stripped-down accompaniment. The album does include a few sappy string arrangements, but they are low in the mix. Clocking in at 32 minutes, Pure 'n Simple is a little on the short side but, then again, there's no filler -- every song is a winner. ~ Tim Griggs, All Music Guide
