What the Critics Say

Anyone who has seen Ministry after 1990 knows they're one of the loudest live acts on the planet. These Chicago bad boys have created ramparts of noise that would crack Phil Spector's bottle-thick glasses in two. But as powerful as they are, it's not easy to translate over to a CD. Ministry head honcho Alain Jourgenen has perfected his techniques in the studio, but the live records haven't been able to effect the same kind of power. Ipecac's release of the highlights from the Psalm 69 tour is more proof of this struggle. Whereas the live performances of Ministry blast supersonic acoustics at maximum threshold, this CD only offers a glimpse of fast guitars and prominent distortion. Ministry fans will appreciate the renditions of "Just One Fix" and "New World Order," but this disc pales in comparison to the real thing. ~ Kieran McCarthy, All Music Guide
