What the Critics Say
Ray Gelato, a fine singer and tenor saxophonist who is one of England's main leaders in the retro-swing movement, sounds very close to Louis Prima in many spots on this CD, particularly on "Josephine" and a medley of "Angelina" and "Zooma Zooma." He also closely emulates Nat "King" Cole on "I've Got a Way With Women" and "L-O-V-E," bases his version of "Umbrella Man" on Dizzy Gillespie's, and does a credible interpretation of "Moody's Mood for Love." Other fine solos are taken by trumpeter Enrico Tomasso (who is showcased on "Stardust"), altoist Alex Garnett, trombonist Andy Baker, and pianist Richard Busiakiewicz. Well worth investigating. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
