What the Critics Say

A low-key debut of modern folk-rock that isn't slick enough for mainstream radio, but would be accessible to mainstream listeners if they ever got the chance to hear it. Some critics characterized her sound as country-rock (an impression reinforced by a cover of Gram Parsons' "Hickory Wind"), but she's actually more impressive when working in a more rock- and pop-conscious vein. Strong contributions from Ian McLagan on organ and piano, as well as covers of tunes by Tim Hardin and Janis Ian (though most of the set is self-penned), mark her as a performer in the classic rock/singer-songwriter tradition, but not to her detriment. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
