What the Critics Say
The Smiths' second album isn't a great leap forward, but it does contain some fine guitar-pop, including "The Headmaster Ritual," "Rusholme Ruffians," and "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore." The American version included the pulsating "How Soon is Now?," which doesn't fit the mood of the rest of the album. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Stephen Thomas Erlewine is an idiot....you don't have any idea of the impact that The Smiths had on popular culture in the 80s. Not only was the music original, it has stood the test of time. I was a teenager when The Smiths made their first album. To this day, I own all of them and even though the medium on which they are played continuously changes, the powerful music and lyrics continue to move me and is still part of my daily life. You have no idea what you are talking about....give the money back...
