What the Critics Say
Maverick the movie mixes an old-fashioned Western setting with some modern-day comedy and action, and even a little sexual tension and romance. Stars in this film are Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, and James Garner. It seemed only appropriate that during the making of it another big-name artist, Randy Newman, be called in to handle the musical score, along with Frank Wolf as producer. It was orchestrated by Don Davis and Jack Hayes. This country-styled musical score carries tracks that travel smoothly from dark and melancholy to energetic and humorous. Many Newman fans might find this album a little different than his normal offerings, but still worth a listen or two. Fans of the movie itself might enjoy the Maverick soundtrack also, with its list of songs done by top country singers such as Clint Black and Vince Gill. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
