What the Critics Say
The Swinging Pig's Live in Amsterdam may be the definitive document of the Who's September 29, 1969 show at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Holland. Taken from the soundboard recording, the double-disc set contains an entire performance of Tommy, which is split between the two discs, plus performances of "Heaven and Hell," "I Can't Explain," "Fortune Teller," "Tattoo," "Young Man Blues," "Summertime Blues" and "Shakin' All Over." The Who's performance is loose, ferocious and vital, even if it doesn't quite meet the peaks of the officially released Live at Leeds and Isle of Wight. Nevertheless, for hardcore collectors, it is certainly worth seeking out, since the performance, packaging and sound are all first-rate. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
