What the Critics Say
Live: If That Ain't Country... captures David Allan Coe in concert in the mid-'90s, running through most of his best-known songs ("Would You Lay with Me [In a Field of Stone]," "Take This Job and Shove It," "Willie, Waylon and Me"), illustrating that he delivers them nearly as well -- and often a whole lot more country -- than the artists who made them famous. Although the sound is a little ragged at times, If That Ain't Country is a great, bracing listen, full of rowdy spirit and rollicking energy. It's yet another album from Coe that suggests he should have been a star, even though his cult audience has allowed him to flourish and make records as fine as this. ~ Thom Owens, All Music Guide
