What the Critics Say
Recorded during their heyday, shortly after the 1997 release of So Much for the Afterglow (which had followed up the very successful Sparkle and Fade), Live from Toronto showcases Everclear's heavier rock performance, their grungier side, rather than the relatively softer radio pop that probably brought most of these fans to the concert anyway. "Santa Monica," "I Will Buy You a New Life," and "Everything to Everyone" are all played, but they're harder than the studio versions, and interspersed with songs like "Heroin Girl," "Loser Makes Good" (from their debut album World of Noise), and "Amphetamine," the Billboard favorites sound still even louder. Still, as Everclear has lost most of its relevance since the late '90s, (despite recurring tours well into the first part of the 21st century), a live performance doesn't really do or mean much, and makes Live from Toronto pretty irrelevant, too. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
