What the Critics Say
Somewhere along the way, the Boo Radleys decided "Lazarus" was their best song, and consequently released an unbelievable amount of remixes. The seven-inch version differs only slightly from the LP version on Giant Steps. The two tracks that actually make this EP worth the plastic are the acoustic version of "Lazarus" and "(I Wanna Be) Touchdown Jesus." The acoustic track comes from an uncredited radio show and features a very funny, short interview before the song. In its stripped-down form, "Lazarus" really does shine. "(I Wanna Be) Touchdown Jesus" is one of the Boo Radleys' best songs and is previously unreleased. There are some short, instrumental bridges which many would consider excessively noisy, but they are merely accents on this nearly perfect pop song. There is very little of the original "Lazarus" remaining in this St. Etienne remix. With virtually no vocals, this slow-tempo techno/ambient interpretation lends itself more to a relaxing night on the beach than a dance club. ~ Joe Schanderson, All Music Guide
