The fifth of seven LPs in this collector's series of recordings from the post-swing era features seven lengthy performances from the clarinetist's last Gramercy Five, a boppish unit with guitarist Tal Farlow, pianist Hank Jones and vibraphonist Joe Roland that served as a perfect outlet for Shaw's creativity. It is a real shame that he did not have the will power to keep similar groups in existence for the remainder of the decade, instead choosing to quit altogether the following year. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
