What the Critics Say
With Edith Piaf finally being immortalized on the silver screen in 2007, this collection (originally issued in 1974 on LP) should appeal to those first discovering her in the 21st century. Others likely already have these songs, sung by one of the truly gifted European stylists of all time. In addition to the immortal title track, this collection features another 18 selections, spanning her golden years of 1940-1946. Of note are "Les Deux Compains," "Tu Es Partout," "Si Tu Partais," and "Les Trois Cloches." Really, all of the songs are precious, so pick and choose your own favorites. These tunes are backed by symphonic orchestras, but that does not detract from the sheer beauty of her singing. It is recommended for all. ~ Michael G. Nastos, All Music Guide
