What the Critics Say
Mary Wells battled valiantly in the late '80s against the throat cancer that finally killed her in 1992. She clearly was singing strictly on emotion, desire, and willpower throughout this session, which was recorded in 1987 and issued in 1990 by Ian Levine. It should be regarded more as a final testament rather than judged, since Wells was in no shape to even be singing at that point. Levine deserves thanks for giving her one last shot, and any fan hearing it will be saddened that she's no longer around. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
