What the Critics Say
It's true that there are so many Louis Jordan collections it's intimidating. Who knows which to choose and what the sound quality will be like, not to mention what songs will get left off a particular hits collection. This is the first of two volumes offering the singles and jukebox smashes of the great Jordan during his prime. This material charts the half decade from the WWII years into the early postwar period. The sound quality is great and only the truly major material is collected here: "Open the Door Richard," "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," "Is You or Is You Ain't My Baby?," "Let the Good Times Roll," "Caldonia," "What's the Use of Getting Sober (When You're Gonna Get Drunk Again)," and more. There are 27 cuts and the only thing in Jordan's catalog to top this set is Vol. 2. This is for hardcore fans and novices alike. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
