What the Critics Say
Rory Block was combative, poignant, energetic and laidback on this record. She did a good cover of Charley Patton's "Moon's Going Down," awhich changed things considerably from the strident mood established on the opening selection "Send The Man Back Home." She handled the melancholy title track, was playful on "Lovin' Whiskey" and introspective on the final song "Highland Overture," a guitar/synthesizer duet that almost, but didn't quite plunge into the New Age/background music abyss. This seemed like an experimental/searching session for Block, who sometimes was enjoyable, but overall didn't fare as well as on most of her other releases. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
