What the Critics Say

Altogether heavier and darker than Mick Collins' previous band, the Gories, Blacktop ventures into the deepest, darkest corners of the garage for its sweaty inspiration. Among its discoveries there are a rough and ready cover of Captain Beefheart's "Here I Am (Here I Always Am)" and a slew of stomping originals that sound as if penned at a drag strip as races went on. Collins and Darin Lin Wood are in fine voice and their anti-heroic guitar riffing tangles perfectly. Bassist Alex Cuervo and drummer Janet Walker keep the low end more down and dirty than the law should allow. Too bad the band didn't stick around long enough to follow up this fine dose of garage punk noise. ~ Brian Beatty, All Music Guide
