What the Critics Say
Anyone doubting the fury of early Costello should have a listen to this live bootleg from the Armed Funk Tour, only a few weeks after the Bonnie Bramlett incident (where Costello was dubbed a racist by the press after a drunken bar brawl). This Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania concert on April 12, 1979 has two speeds: fast and pissed off. The sound is quite tinny, but no matter, Costello and the Attractions plow through their hits and punk up such songs at "Girls Talk" and "Green Shirt," and Costello puts on his yobbo accent to scare the American audience. Also of interest are strange, new wave arrangements of songs that would later make it onto Get Happy!! in altered form: "Opportunity," "High Fidelity," and a cover of Ian Dury's "Roadette's Song." ~ Ted Mills, All Music Guide
