What the Critics Say
I Love Rock N Roll is a six-track collection rounding up a clutch of odds and sods drawn from the most recent corners of Alan Merrill's ever-amazing (and constantly expanding) catalog. The title track, of course, should require no introduction; it is present here in two versions, the definitive take which helped highlight Merrill's Cupid Deranged CD, and brought ex-Glitter Band drummer Pete Phipps' finest "Angel Face" beat out to play; and a Kirk Yano remix that might well be the song's most dynamic incarnation yet. Two new songs follow, "The Other Side of Town" and Van Morrison's "If You Rock Me" -- with an alternate version of the latter following a little later. But the final track is the real gift: "Breathe on Me" is an outtake from Kurious Kurt's so-precious Ronnie Wood tribute album, We've Got Our Own "Best of" to Do!, with Merrill, Kurt and the late, great Nikki Sudden all in full flight throughout. ~ Dave Thompson, All Music Guide
