What the Critics Say

For those listeners who admire the angelic voice of the inimitable Aaron Neville, this European release should be of interest. The vocalist, who records and tours with the other Neville Brothers, has long been considered a living treasure in his hometown of New Orleans. He first gained national prominence with the single, "Over You," followed by the blockbuster "Tell It Like It Is." Now people all over the world recognize the beautiful high-tenor voice of Aaron Neville. The CD Humdinger contains the early work that Neville did with Allen Touissant. The R&B star of piano and song also worked in the production end of music and collaborated with Neville on a collection of songs that showcased the golden voice of the singer. The songs were originally released as a compilation in 1986. While the lyrics may be a bit strange, there is no doubting the beauty of the voice. One may wonder what these two giants of New Orleans music were thinking with lines like: "You take a bumble bee and match him with a doorbell, and whatcha got? Humdinger." But with a voice like Aaron Neville's, the lyrics may hardly matter. ~ Rose of Sharon Witmer, All Music Guide
