What the Critics Say

Four years after the release of Spellbound, Paula Abdul returned with the sleek Head Over Heels. Head Over Heels doesn't sound all that different than her previous album; it incorporates a couple of current dance trends without ever letting the beats dominate the accessible pop melodies of the songs. Unfortunately, the songs are more well constructed than well written -- all of the arrangements hide the fact that the songs usually lack strong hooks. That weakness is accentuated by the length of the album. Approaching nearly 70 minutes, Head Over Heels spends too much time with lesser songs. Abdul remains an engaging presence, even with her limited vocal talents, and the record's best songs -- the slinky "My Love Is for Real," for instance -- are more mature and seductive than her earlier works, showing that she has the possibility to grow old gracefully. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

She is absolutely fabulous Does that jerk Simon realize what talent really is? He is a jerk. In my eyes he is nobody but a bully. I truly cant stand his guts. And. I cant believe the producers think that he belongs on that show for all he is is a downer with very bad karma. His critical remarks are so demeaning and negative i still can't believe the producers think this is remotely something america digs watching. him jabbing Paula all the time chlls my bones. It would be a GREAT show if they replaced him with someone not as indignit as he. he is just too mean and a jealous rat. Obviously has issues with himself. He gives me the creeps so why I ask is he on.tv My heart goes out to talented Paula because she has to put up with his abusive behavior. Thank God Randy is there to try to balance things out. BELIEVE ME ITS NOT ENJOYABLE EXCEPT FOR THE NEW TALENTS THAY WE SEE. THAT SIMON HAS TO GO. i AM SO HAPPY Paula had a chance to do what she does best! and feels her best - what an accomplishment and relief it must have been for her. Simon on the other hand was way jealous didn't show any feelings of happiness for her. like i said, he is a creep. like a predator. Thank you Randy for encourging Paula, for you gave her back her self confidence, and for that I love you dearly -- you have a kind heart.
