What the Critics Say
One of the most significant contributions Michael Bivins made during his years in the music industry was a) not his time (or raps) in New Edition or b) his tenure (or raps) in supertrio Bell Biv DeVoe, it was c) his discovery and grooming of Philly's Boyz II Men. The quartet was an R&B phenomenon that dominated several of the Billboard charts for nearly a decade. Legacy is a fine testament to that lengthy tour of duty, starting off with the new jack anthem "Motownphilly" and working its way through what the group did best: make sultry soulful ballads that were matched only by a select few of the emulators that would cross its path. The near-perfect harmonies and vocal acrobatics are the hallmark of the group, but the production and musicianship are equally sharp. It's this formula that kept the group running and its fans equally running to the record store with each subsequent release. For those fans, many will already have their individual works in their CD cases, but for those looking for a complete, solid volume to house all of the group's finest hour, then one need look no further than this. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
