What the Critics Say
By 1995, Oasis was becoming one of the most bootlegged bands in the alternative rock field. Numerous Oasis bootlegs surfaced in the mid- to late '90s -- not only in the U.S., but also in Japan and all over Europe. From Reykjavik to Tokyo, bootleggers knew that Oasis commanded an extremely enthusiastic following; some of its more obsessive fans really were interested in having 40 or 50 live performances of "Wonderwall" and "Live Forever" in their CD collections. One of Oasis' many American bootlegs is Getting High, which focuses on an October 10, 1996, show at Hammer Jacks in Baltimore. The CD is rewarding, although not unique. Getting High boasts generally excellent sound quality, and Oasis delivers inspired performances of gems from (What's the Story) Morning Glory? ("Some Might Say," "Roll With It," "Champagne Supernova," "Don't Look Back in Anger") and Definitely Maybe ("Live Forever," "Shaker Maker," "Supersonic"). But then, there are countless other bootlegs of Oasis' 1996 shows that offer excellent sound quality and inspired performances. Unfortunately, the Hurricane label doesn't list all of the songs in their correct order; "Cast No Shadow," which comes after "Wonderwall" and before "Don't Look Back in Anger," isn't even listed. But, all things considered, Getting High isn't a bad bootleg to have in your collection if you're a hardcore Oasis fan. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
