What the Critics Say

The Scottish indie pop outfit Cane 141 delivers a sophisticated selection of songs on their second album, Garden Tiger Moth. It's a spring-like mix of acoustic guitars, light string arrangements, and a hushing woodwind section. Frontman Michael Smalle croons his way like a lovedrunk Dean Wareham on the darling, synth-driven "In the Sky, the Lucky Stars." "Eager Boy Comics" and "Real Spacemen Never Walk Anywhere" experiment with dream pop loops and swirling guitars for a gauzy, space rock feel. "New Day Parade," which received high props from NME, features guest vocals from ex-American Music Club vocalist Mark Eitzel. It's an acoustic jaunt of theatrical desires and Eitzel's whispery vocals are delightfully charming. Cane 141 keeps things simple on Garden Tiger Moth. It's a warm, typically indie, poetic songbook. Fans of Palace Brothers and Luna will thoroughly enjoy the blissful beauty of Garden Tiger Moth. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
