What the Critics Say
The Dutch Collection has artwork patterned after Sony's Essential series and, for most intents and purposes, it's an entry in that series -- only it's Dutch, not in language but in its release. Its European origin may explain why it downplays the early rock & rollers in favor of late-'60s and '70s pop hits -- something that the non-chronological track listing doesn't immediately make apparent -- and it ever so slightly emphasizes the overblown Elvis of Vegas. So anybody looking for a good collection of the biggest Elvis hits, both in terms of charts and sound, should be happy with that -- although if you're not Dutch, this might not be worth seeking out in other territories, as there is bound to be a domestic comp that gets you pretty close to where you want to be. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
