What the Critics Say

When you announce publicly that your music is modeled after another group's, you're setting yourself up for disaster. And, when the group you aspire to mimic is one of the most critically lauded underground acts of the past 15 years, you might as well write your own bad reviews. The bad news is that Bigdumbface's Duke Lion Fights the Terror is the epitome of a mediocre Ween rip-off. The good news is that Bigdumbface doesn't seem to care. Even though they've stolen everything from Ween's silly voices to their droves of mock country licks, they seem to be having just as much fun as the real McCoy. There's hardly anything, lyrically or conceptually, in Duke Lion that could be pegged as anything beyond an elaborately produced inside joke (or a joke that no one gets at all), but the enthusiasm and playfulness are still contagious. If the album isn't an accomplished work of art, it's not a pretentious one either. From that angle, there are many 15-year-old Limp Bizkit fans who may find it something revolutionary. ~ Kieran McCarthy, All Music Guide
