What the Critics Say

The Dr. Demento 30th Anniversary Collection: Dementia 2000 is the third double-disc Dr. Demento "anniversary" compilation Rhino has released, and it's kind of surprising that some of the songs here haven't been featured on the previous installments. But that works to the benefit of this collection, which includes big-ticket novelty records like Loudon Wainwright III's "Dead Skunk," Ozzy Fudd's "Kill the Wabbit," Tom Lehrer's "The Elements," Chuck Berry's "My Ding-A-Ling," and the Bonzo Dog Band's "I'm the Urban Spaceman," plus several Weird Al Yankovic songs. There are also hit oldies like the Coasters' "Charlie Brown" and Brian Hyland's "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," plus material from full-fledged comedy acts like George Carlin, Cheech & Chong, Billy Crystal, National Lampoon, and Monty Python. Overall, it's a necessary addition for anyone who enjoyed the previous volumes. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
