American Idol seventh season runner-up David Archuleta was the same age as Jordin Sparks, the season six winner, but he always seemed much, much older -- a creature from a different era, a time where Up with People peacefully merged with the sound and sensibility of the pre-Nirvana '90s. Modernity seemed foreign to Archuleta, which wouldn't prevent his success in American Idol, a show that lives in a permanent oldies fantasia where it's still rebellious to sing the Allman Brothers some 35 years after their breakthrough. While rebellion is anathema to Archuleta, there's no doubt that the kid is sweet, something that shone through on the show, and he manages to sidestep saccharine pitfalls through much of his eponymous debut -- delivered six months after AmIdol season seven drew to a close. The producers keep him away from anything rhythmic through most of David Archuleta, with only the overly busy rhythm tracks distinguishing this as a 2008 release. Archuleta does sing well -- maybe not with a sense of storytelling, but as a highly coached performer who can hit the marks with accuracy. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

David Archuleta's Debut Album is AMAZING!!! Even though most of the tracks are ballads, they are all slighly different sounding. I LOVE ALL OF THEM!! David is a STORY TELLER, he likes songs with meaning, with a message. All his tracks are classy, with UPLIFTING MESSAGES, messages of Love and Hope. That's the kind of music David loves to deliver. At the same time he is a teen and likes the uptempo music, which by the way JIVE DID NOT allow David to put on the CD. David co-wrote several tracks with Mike Komprass his guitarist currently on Tour, "A Little Too Not Over You", "Somebody Out There", "Zero Gravity" (JIVE decided not to included it the on CD). "Zero Gravity" has been the HIT of his Solo Tour. It's an uptempo, catchy, club worthy HIT song. He also co-wrote "Don't Let Go", "It Works For Me" and wrote and composed "FALLING". This young man is an EXTREMELY talented artist and the American public has only seen the surfaced scratched by David Archuleta!! He is going to be HUGE in this Music Industry!!!!!!

Archuletta, I am so very proud of you...my entire family love your songs especially "Crush!"..you have a lot more in you to give..hold your head up..look to Almighty God for wisdom and directions...you will be here for many years with a lot more powerful hits...good luck!!!

Archuleta lacks versatility. He finds a safe haven in ballads. I'm not impressed by his singing. When he matures more and his voice changes ,I think everyone including his dad will be in for a big disappointment and all that will remain will be his "cute" face. His video is substandard. Anyone with an inexpensive camcorder could create a video of greater quality. I'm quite sure that by the end of 2009 David will go the route of most who were expected to be "stars" of Idol, forgotten. He'll have to get a real job later in life and be content singing for his friends and family or anyone else who will listen. I'm positive it won't be me listening. David is nothing more than average and mundane.

i totally agreed with the american idol judges...he can sing the phone book and i would still love it!!! love his songs and this album is soooo worth the cost. he deserved the high ratings he got with "crush"...can't wait for the future ALBUMS!

David Archuleta is the best!!!!! this album is AWESOME!!!! he is so talented, as a singer, performer, songwriter and he is an AMAZING human being! He is definitely the best!
