What the Critics Say
Those who find country crooner George Morgan's classic Columbia recordings a bit on the bland side might take a liking to this collection of 1950s radio transcriptions. Morgan tackles a wide variety of material, including gospel, up-tempo honky tonk, covers of others' hits, and the obligatory sentimental slow songs. "Up and Down My Heart Strings" is weirdly interrupted by Ferlin Husky's comedic persona, Simon Crum, and backing group Don Davis and the Candy Kids turn in an instrumental performance of "Panhandle Rag." Two different versions of Morgan's career hit "Candy Kisses" are included. Roy Drusky was often called the "Perry Como of Country Music," but George Morgan may have better deserved the nickname. ~ Greg Adams, All Music Guide
