What the Critics Say
Pianist Al Haig's final recording (he died less than six months later) is a live jam session with four fine English jazzmen: altoist Peter King (a superior bop player), Art Themen on tenor and soprano, bassist Kenny Baldock and drummer Allan Ganley. This British LP finds Haig still in fine form, playing in his largely unchanged bop style on six songs from the era, including "Bags Groove," "Night In Tunisia" and "Birks Works"; each of the workouts clock in between six and ten minutes. A fine ending to a career that lasted longer than it originally looked as if it would. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
