What the Critics Say
Bobby Darin was a diverse performer, singing everything from pop and rock to Broadway and swing tunes, as well as a selection of folk and country for good measure. Darin never was lacking in ambition, trying more styles than most other pop singers. That doesn't mean he was consistent, as the four-disc box set As Long as I'm Singing: The Bobby Darin Collection proves. A good portion of the 96 tracks on As Long as I'm Singing are worthwhile, particularly his pop and some of swing numbers, yet he didn't produce enough compelling material for most of his casual fans. Apart from an early version of "Dream Lover," the unreleased material is primarily of interest to hardcore fans, who should be thrilled with the presentation of the set, as well as the track selection. Many listeners will simply find the box to contain too much music, and will be satisfied with single-disc collections. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
