What the Critics Say
Into the third batch of Rhino's Deluxe Edition reissue campaign of the Elvis Costello catalog, a familiar pattern certainly began to emerge. Each disc has more tracks, better liner notes than the Demon/Rykodisc reissues, which had all the heavy-hitters -- all the B-sides, the bonus EPs, the demos that truly matter. This is especially the case of Armed Forces, whose second disc's best material is what was on the Ryko edition, at least more or less. What is truly noteworthy on this issue is a bunch of unreleased material from the Live at Hollywood High sessions, all as excellent as those on the released EP. To be sure, if you don't own the previous reissue of Armed Forces, this is the one to get. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
