What the Critics Say
The Swinging Pig's American Tour 1973 chronicles a concert the Who gave at the Capitol Center in Largo, Maryland on December 6, 1973 -- the last show of the group's North American tour. Previous boots, such as Decidedly Belated Response, of this concert were taken from audience tapes, and that is the case here. However, some sources -- namely, the Who Bootleg list maintained by one "Baba O'Reily" -- speculate that this disc contains material from the King Biscuit Flower Hour show, which broadcast selections from the group's December 4th show at the Philadelphia Spectrum. Hardcore collectors -- and, let's face it, those are the kinds that will likely be purchasing Who live shows -- will need to keep such distinctions in mind, but even if it isn't historically accurate, American Tour 1973 is certainly entertaining and contains dynamic performances, highlighted by three selections from Quadrophenia ("The Real Me," "Bell Boy," "Doctor Jimmy"), "I Can't Explain," "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "Won't Get Fooled Again." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
