What the Critics Say
As the fourth year without the promised successor to One/Three rolled on, Ghostly bundled up five previously released Dabrye remixes and added three that were previously unreleased for this disc, the first in an (another) apparent series. Though the source material comes from a wide variety of artists, Additional Productions is nearly as linear as One/Three and Instrmntl, meaning that it doesn't have the disjointed, slapped-together characteristic that most other remix collections have in common. And just like the proper Dabrye albums to date, this disc is succinct, drawing to a close within half an hour, so it's more likely to be enjoyed from front to back without skipping around. A remix of conjoined James Brown/Fela Kuti-inspired Nomo interludes provides a clipped gait while also allowing more breathing room for the Rhodes vamps and sax interjections. The original mix of T. Raumschmiere's "Monstertruckdriver" works itself into a pulverizing charge with a shuffle beat, but Dabrye's spin is more like a stuttering marching band with rabbit punches of synth in place of fist-pumping brass. His own "Hyped-Up Plus Tax" appears in live form, improved with blunt-force kick drums. No track here is disposable, making the disc more than a stopgap. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
