What the Critics Say
Barbara Acklin's lone Capitol release reunites the singer with producer Willie Henderson, a staple of her classic Brunswick Records sessions. While A Place in the Sun updates their classic Chicago soul sound for the disco era, the slicker approach serves Acklin's sweet, heartfelt vocals rather well, even if the album's commercial failure spelled the end of her brief tenure with the label. Acklin's songwriting is typically top-notch, encompassing an impressively wide span of moods and rhythms, and Henderson's signature production blends seamlessly with the era's prevailing sensibilities. In short, an underrated effort from an underrated talent. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
