What the Critics Say
A characteristically weird, all-over-the-place album on an offbeat label by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. He's the type of artist much better in small doses than over a full album. Despite his congenial, humorous style, Hawkins isn't a great R&B or blues vocalist, and tries to compensate through comic effects, gimmick vocals, and unusual songs. Those couldn't help him on this album, which just doesn't have enough good songs to keep it interesting. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
