What the Critics Say

Different labels have issued this same batch of songs, but the results are always the same -- the best assembly of Whispers' songs ever! The festivities span from 1970 to 1988, and thankfully omits their pioneering years on Dore Records, beginning with "Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong" and concluding with "Special F/X," a Leon Sylvers production. The cream between those two cookies include "I Only Meant to Wet My Feet," "Bingo," Van McCoy's "Living Together in Sin," "Olivia (Lost and Turned Out)," "A Song for Donny," "Lady," and all their significant Soul Train dance ditties. The songs aren't in strict chronological order, but a finer overview of the Whispers' amazing career -- they began recording in 1964 -- hasn't been released. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
